Our scientists are making breakthroughs possible across four key areas for action.
We’re working on understanding the diseases that cause dementia. There’s so much about how the brain operates that we still don’t know. The more we understand how the diseases that cause dementia progress, the more effectively we can treat them.
We’re learning how to diagnose people earlier and more accurately. Earlier diagnosis helps people with dementia access the right help and support. In the future, earlier diagnosis will be invaluable in getting treatments to patients when they can have the greatest effect.
We’re finding out more about how people can reduce their risk of getting dementia. As many as four in ten cases of dementia may be preventable by avoiding risks such as smoking.
And perhaps most importantly, we’re exploring thousands of promising drug compounds to find future treatments for dementia – or even, one day, a cure.
