We rescue tens of thousands of animals from cruelty, abandonment, and neglect each year. Paddy the crossbreed is one of them. We were called out to rescue Paddy by a woman who’d just witnessed him being thrown over a 6ft fence into her garden. Our animal rescuer Louis Horton rushed to the scene to find a wounded and bloodied dog. He looked painfully thin and tucked into the food given to him. Paddy’s injuries suggested he may have been used for badger baiting. Yet despite the cruelty and neglect he’d obviously endured, he was still willing to trust us.
Our animal rescuer rushed Paddy to our Millbrook Animal Centre in Surrey, where he received urgent veterinary care. A gentle soul, he always sat patiently while his wounds were cleaned. He loved the company of the staff who looked after him, working on his rehabilitation to get him to a healthy weight and teach him how to play and have fun. Once fully recovered, Paddy was matched with his forever family. And we’re so glad to be able to tell the story of his happy-ever-after — when he came so close to a tragic ending.
Sadly, Paddy is one of thousands of animals who need our help every year. Founded nearly 200 years ago, the RSPCA is the only charity in England and Wales with a coordinated team to rescue animals from cruelty, abuse and neglect. We want to always be there for animals who need us — but we can’t know what the future holds. There will always be animals like Paddy that rely on our help.
